About this tool
This tool estimates education expenses based on data from the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT).
- Costs: Includes tuition, school lunches, extracurricular activities, and cram school (juku) averages.
- Subsidies: Automatically subtracts the Child Allowance (Jido Teate) based on 2025 expanded rules (¥15k/mo for 0-3, ¥10k/mo for 3-18).
- University: Assumes 4 years of tuition plus admission fees. Living expenses for students living away from home are NOT included.
